BLACKMORE HOUSE

OUR WORK

PROJECT DETAILS

Project Duration: 35 Weeks
Location: Essex
Client: Private Client
Value: £Cost On Request
Architects: Buro Nineteen

OVERVIEW
The brief for the project was to modernise and future proof a solidly built 1960’s family home in Essex. The 4,000 sq.ft. building benefited from an enviable rural setting surrounded by mature trees and grounds, but it’s dated appearance and poor thermal performance warranted a major upgrade.

OUR SOLUTION
The design involved installing external insulation to reduce energy usage which is overclad with materials of the East Anglian vernacular; reclaimed Suffolk White bricks, black painted timber sidings, fairfaced concrete and roughcast render. All the external windows and doors have been replaced with high-performance aluminium and timber units that are double-glazed. The heating and domestic water is provided via two 12 KW air source heat pumps rendering the fossil fuel boiler redundant.

This is the second project TSI has built to the designs of Heinz Richardson, principal of the award-winning practice Buro Nineteen. Known for their thoughtful architecture the practice creates architecture, which is enduring, delightful and environmentally responsible.
